DESI-MSI — Desorption ElectroSpray Ionization Mass-Spec Imaging L1-144
Unclaimed Principle — open for contribution
This Principle is declared in the catalog but has no reference solver, no pinned dataset, and is not registered on-chain. There is no reward pool. Submitting a cert against this Principle today will record the cert for reproducibility but pay zero PWM.
To claim it as a Bounty #7 contribution: open a PR adding (1) a reference solver, (2) ≥1 dataset pinned to IPFS, (3) updates to the L3 manifest with dataset CIDs. After verifier-agent triple-review, the founders' 3-of-5 multisig signs PWMRegistry.register() and the Principle becomes mineable.
Forward model E
Electrosprayed charged solvent droplets impact a sample, re-dissolving and ionizing surface molecules; secondary droplets travel to mass spectrometer inlet where m/z is measured. A moving stage rasters the sample under the DESI spray to build a 2D image with spectrum per pixel.

Well-posedness W
- Existence:
- true
- Uniqueness:
- mass-peak identity unique at high R; linear in c(r) for non-saturating ionization
- Stability:
- conditional
- κ:
- 500
Linear regime at low analyte density; ion-suppression & matrix effects dominate at high concentration. Spray stability drift causes low-frequency artifacts in slow scans.
Solvability C
- Solver class:
- Peak integration, PCA/NMF, MCR-ALS, ion-suppression correction via internal standards, learned (CNN-MSI, GraphNN-MSI)
- Convergence rate q:
- 2
- Complexity:
- O(H*W*K*N_mz) linear unmix; MCR-ALS iter*...
